Adopt a Great Dane

Great Dane Dog

Geli the Dog needs a home

Geli lived with two cats and a male Great Dane.  She gets anxious around yelling in her home.  She is on medicine for bladder leakage caused by spaying.  Knows Sit, Lay Down, wait, Come, Go Potty and Stay.  Should be crated when not at home or will chew.  Sometimes digs in dirt.

Hello – though I have been called “jelly” and “gee-lee” my name is Geli (ghee-lee). My foster mom says it means “angelic.” Which suits me just fine as truthfully I AM! My foster mom and dad call me “stout” or “big boned”, me, I prefer my mom calling me “fluffy”. She says I am like a soft teddy bear that she just cannot help but squeeze and snuggle with. I like snuggling and belly rubs. I am even enjoying going out for walks or playing in the dog park. We don’t walk far but it is still fun to meet all the neighbors and getting petted. Mom says we both need the exercise and when it gets warmer we are going to start walking longer! My favorite hobby is sleeping on the couch – I can STRETCH out on it. Mom says I snore louder than

dad – I just don’t understand as I NEVER hear it. I think she is just exaggerating! Girls do NOT snore nor do we DROOL!!

My dad thinks I am pretty amazing too. He said I needed a bath so I walked in and went right in the tub. I don’t know what the big deal was as I know they make me sell really pretty but my dad was just so happy with me and couldn’t believe how good I was. But I am always good, even when my mom takes be through the car wash or my foster brother steals my food.

Mom says my noise is going to get me in trouble though. I don’t what she is talking about but

apparently mom thinks that I shouldn’t be putting my nose on the cupboard, but let me tell you the SMELLS that come from the place are absolutely A-M- A-Z- I-N- G! I don’t take anything off the cupboard or anywhere but my dish but I am trying to be better at not putting my nose up there too. If you like a big cuddle bunny that just wants to snuggle, than I am the girl for you. I don’t mind taking walks around the neighborhood, but I much rather spend time just lazing around the house or sunning myself outside. I hope you will consider me as a PERFECT companion in your life! I have so much love to give.

Geli

Hello – this is Geli’s foster mom. I have to tell you she is SUCH a sweetheart I don’t think I have met a more mellow dog that just wants to be part of someone’s life. We have having a little weight issues, but let’s face it who doesn’t as we get older. We have switched over to NutriSource Weight Management and she seems to be adjusting well to it (1.5 cups 2x daily). She doesn’t beg for food and with her weight we thought she would be wanting human food but doesn’t go after it (we keep everything out of reach though too).

Geli also has some hot spots that we are treating with a holistic balm. It seems to be helping with her with healing. She is kennel trained at night and when we are away. Usually she will sleep on her bed on the floor but once in a while she cannot get comfortable so we allow her to stretch out on the couch – she promptly falls into a deep sleep and shakes the raters with her snoring!!! We haven’t had any problems with her on the leash. She sometimes gets excited and will pull on the leash to get us moving faster but will slow down if we tell her to “heel”.

When we got her, we were told that she had a leaky bladder. So far we have a found it is only when she is in her kennel. We have been helping her with it by ensuring that when we put her in her kennel she has gone out immediately before and after. We also monitor her drinking. Her weekday schedule is: (weekends there is no kennel time except at night).

6am Walk, breakfast (1.5 cups of kibbles) and water (1 cup)

8am Kennel

12noon Walk and ½ cup of water

1230pm Kennel

430pm Walk, supper (1.5 cups of kibble and 1 cup of water)

10pm Walk and evening treat

1030pm Kennel

It is hard for me to accurately describe Geli – she is one of those rare dogs that you want o to constantly be around and pet continually. She lives to be a couch potato and for belly rubs. Nothing phases her at all. She will be an excellent “daughter” for someone that wants a companion that is low maintenance and all love.
